What is Hypnotherapy?

Discover Hypnotherapy and it's benefits

Hypnotherapy is a type of therapy which uses relaxation and the power of suggestion to elicit positive change. During hypnotherapy, guided relaxation techniques are used to reach a state where the conscious mind is relaxed and the subconscious mind is open to suggestion. As the body becomes increasingly relaxed during hypnosis, the activity in the brain changes frequencies.

When in an awakened state we commonly experience beta wave frequencies in the brain. Beta brainwaves are associated with external attention, high levels of thinking and analysis. During hypnosis, we move from beta wave into alpha and even theta wave states. Alpha brain frequencies are associated with relaxation, creativity and learning.

Theta brainwaves are associated with very deep levels of relaxation, inward focus and insight, as can be observed while meditating.

This means that during hypnotherapy new ideas and beliefs can be accepted easily and uncritically, as the mind is open, relaxed and in a state of learning without judgement.

Self Hypnosis

Hypnosis can often be misunderstood. It may be perceived that there is a loss of control.

While hypnotherapy is facilitated by a hypnotherapist, all hypnosis is self induced. This means that it can't be induced, if you aren't willing.

Relaxation

During hypnotherapy, deep levels of relaxation are generated during the induction.

Once in a state of relaxation, the hypnotherapist will use visualisations, abstract language and affirmations.

Suggestion

With deep relaxation, comes heightened suggestibility.

In this suggestible state, the affirmations are able to manifest and can bring about profound change.
